My Artistic Journey
My Story as an Artist
Every artist’s journey starts in its own unique way. For me, it began long before I ever considered art as a career back when I was just a kid who loved to color, cut, glue, and create anything I could during arts and crafts time. I didn’t know it then, but those moments were planting the seeds for something much bigger.
As I grew older, everything changed around 6th grade. From moving over a dozen times as a kid. That’s when art stopped being just a fun hobby and started becoming something deeper, something that can be used to express my interests along with others as well. I explored painting, drawing, watercolors really anything that let me bring ideas to life. I loved it all. It felt natural, exciting, and expressive in a way nothing else did.
One random day, I was sitting in my room, quietly drawing like I always did. When my mom walked in, paused, and looked at what I was working on. She asked, “Wow, did you draw that?” And then she said the words that stuck with me for years: “It’s good!” Something about that moment lit a spark. Hearing those words made me look at my own art differently. It was the first time I realized that maybe my art wasn’t just a way for me to express myself, and it wasn’t just a way of finding comfort and joy. But it can be something more, those words “Its good” was all i needed to start showing my art, getting feedback to be better and helping others express themselves too. something I enjoy.
From that day on, I drew more. I painted more. I showed my work to people instead of keeping it tucked away. And slowly, I began to imagine a future where art wasn’t just something I loved, but something I could actually pursue. But what leads me to create art is my inspiration, that comes from the people closest to me. My 13-year-old brother Henry inspires me with his humor, energy, and the way he sees the world. My mom (Sara) who has incredible crafting skills showed me from a young age that creativity runs in our family. And is a big help in giving me feedback on my work. And my partner Ryan, who has been one of my biggest supporters, encourages me to keep experimenting, keep improving, and never give up on my art. They remind me that there’s always another way to try again, another way to make something work and that nothing has to be perfect, it just has to be something I enjoy.Eventually, that dream led me to apply to Roger Williams University, where I major in Graphic Design with a minor in Fine Art. Now, standing years from that childhood moment, I’ve been making art for about 10 years. Each year has taught me something different about who I am, what inspires me, and why I create.
As I continue to create art in college. I hope to learn more and more everyday. I hope to help others too. From small logos to big materials to showcase my art in galleries. I am sure to enjoy every moment of it and keep getting better and better.
